What kind of music should be played at a wedding reception?
There are usually two main categories for wedding reception music:
Music during meals (e.g. canapes, entrees and dinner).
Music for dancing (e.g. after the first dance).
When people are eating, you can play a variety of music. The most important point is to keep the volume at a reasonable level. The older guests will want to talk. But don’t turn the volume down too far, otherwise the vibe might be lost. We usually like to play mostly older songs, while throwing in some new alternative triple J stuff. The older generations will appreciate hearing some of their favourite music (e.g. Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, classic Aussie rock, etc).
After the first dance, it’s usually time to get the party started. We suggest you try the playlist in this blog post. It’s got lots of variety. Everything from cheese 90’s pop, 50’s rock n roll, singalongs, RnB Fridays, House, Classic Rock and more.
